Sangit Kala Kendra

The objective of Sangit Kala Kendra: is contained in the line 'Entertainment and Enlightenment through the Arts', which expresses the essence of the aim that Sangit Kala Kendra aspires to achieve. Bringing the finest quality of entertainment and presenting premier artists has been a trademark of the organization since its inception. In fact, in its first year (1973), Sangit Kala Kendra held programs of Mukesh, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt.Shivkumar Sharma and Jagjit and Chitra Singh; and continues the tradition todate. Hosting almost 18 programs a year, the Sangit Kala Kendra's spectrum of entertainment is wide, encompassing drama, classical music and dance, light music and folk dances, kavi sammelans, cooking demonstrations and car treasure hunts.

Members are given abundant opportunities to participate in and showcase their talents. The members' Fancy Dress Competition and Indradhanush (Talent Contest) have been on the calendar of events from 1976 to 1986. Vasanti (fun 'n' fair) was held by the members for almost 12 consecutive years (from 1976 to 1988). The Car Treasure Hunt has been a popular feature with the members since 1981. 'Apno Ke Beech' (member's singing nite) has been an immensely appreciated show and was introduced in the year 1991. Members have also participated in some of the most memorable programs of Sangit Kala Kendra, like a chat show with Amitabh Bachchan, and Aamir Khan and a musical evening with Anil Kapoor.

The Sangit Kala Kendra has always been enthusiastic when it comes to charitable causes. The proceeds of the Lata Mangeshkar Nite, were donated to Baba Amte for the cause of Leprosy and recently in the wake of the war at Kargil it made a contribution to the Army Central Welfare Fund.

The Logo

The logo of Sangit Kala Kendra is represented by Ma Saraswati who is one of the Goddesses of the triad of Parvati, Lakshmi and Saraswati. She is the Goddess of Knowledge, Learning, The Muses and The Arts.

Saraswati is worshipped as a purifier - an enricher of mankind. She is the consort of Brahma and the mother of all vedic Knowledge. She is seen holding the Veena, Books of the Vedas, Rosary and a Lotus. She reigns over the muses of the creative Arts and is the inspiration of all those who seek knowledge.The Goddess is the deity of music, learning, creative inspiration, oratory and is associated with calm tranquility as well as silent contemplation.
